Creating a Beautiful Built-In

Built-In.

Ugh.

It is so rare when I find one that I love. RARE.

They were in every home in the 90s and 00s, and now we all have to deal with them.

The nooks are often off-center, odd sizes and just ugly.

One of the biggest things holding me back from loving our home was what to do with the monstrosity of our entertainment center.

It's a rather large and open room, which is great.
The biggest obstacle I had was that it is OFF CENTER.
All the caps. What a poor design choice.

It's fine. I can fix it.

I immediately decided I needed to wall over it, center the fireplace and tile from floor to ceiling.
But the budget stated differently.
I honed in and decided that painting it will have to do.

I had our kitchen cabinets color-matched and hired a painter to spray it.
Once that first coat was on, I knew it was a game-changer!

I saw the potential and realized I might actually fall in love with it.

I did.

By removing all of the cubbies and extra shelves I realized I was given a blank canvas and with many opportunities to bring in beauty.

Keeping the decor simple, neutral and cohesive allowed this space to breathe on its own.

Soft and Fresh.

Adding large artwork, in this case, canvases of my kiddos, and a large plant can make decor easy!

A large built-in can speak on its own.
